The Sacred Heart School – Ateneo de Cebu is a Catholic, Jesuit college preparatory school with a distinct Chinese-Filipino heritage and character. Through the Senior High School program, our school continues to provide students with excellent education, leadership formation and commitment to service as we form witnesses of God’s light and love to the world.
The Senior High School Program exemplifies the 7 core values in its curriculum. As graduate-Ateneo-Hearters, when students finish Grade 12, we envision them to be inspired and ignited with the gift of St. Ignatius to humanity, the gift of Ignatian Spirituality.
In developing globally competitive leaders, opportunities and activities for students to grow are indispensable. These opportunities of the Senior High School not only direct toward a depth of knowledge (of a strand or discipline) but also its actual practice or immersion in the reality of the industry, enterprise or community.
Not just graduates for college, but Ateneo-Hearters equipped to make a mark as they pursue university baccalaureate degrees and life careers.
We say a resounding YES to forming Ateneo Hearter senior high students ready for college, for work and for life.
Always Magis, always Lux Oriens, always Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam!
The Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand employs a transdisciplinary approach in developing students’ critical thinking and creative problem solving as they engage themselves in a fast-paced and highly globalized world. The STEM strand serves as a foundation for careers in medicine, aviation, architecture, engineering, nutrition, mathematics, and other related fields.
Grade 11 STEM sections conducted the 2nd Innovation Expo in the Multipurpose Hall for thier Disaster Risk Reduction class. Guest speaker Ms. Mariz Ehmele Pino talked about how to innovate with the power of imagination and to lessen the possible hazards that we may encounter near future. Also in attendance were selected sections of both Grade 10 and 11 from Canduman National Highschool
The Innovation Expo showcased the best prototypes chosen per section. Each section had one representative to explain their prototype that will lessen the hazards that they may encounter in a chosen profession.
The Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) strand aims to create leaders of industry grounded in the spirit of Ignatian servant leadership. The ABM strand focuses on financial management, business management, corporate operations, and accounting. ABM leads to careers in management, accountancy, sales, human resources, marketing, project management, auditing, and much more.
On September 14, 2019, the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) Cluster of the Senior High School Department held the World-Class Filipino Symposium 3.0. This year’s symposium highlights the intersection between art and business. World-renowned industrial designer, Mr. Kenneth Cobonpue, gifts us with his presence as he sheds light into his experience as a creative icon who has succeeded in the world of business.
The Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand aims to provide a humanistic and socially aware education in the spirit of the Jesuit tradition. The HUMSS strand is ideal for people looking to become a journalist, teacher, psychologist, lawyer, writer, social worker, or public servant some day.

Rev. Fr. Ramon Echica, SthD, who earned his doctorate in Sacred Theology at the Katholieke Universiteite Luvein, Belgium and the current Dean of Studies of the San Carlos Major Seminary, clarified on the various ways how Religion and Science relate and emphasised on a relationship that Integrate Faith and Reason.

Ateneo Hearters imbued with the 7C’s as their guiding principles are expected to graduate from the school to become future servant-leaders, and men and women with for others. In line with this, the Senior High School offers programs aimed at both character and spiritual formation.
During Senior High School, Ateneo Hearters attend two retreats. The Grade 11 retreat focuses on the student’s relationship with Jesus while the Grade 12 retreat focuses on the student being a member of the wider community.
Part of the Senior High School character formation program involves Social Involvement activities in partnership with institutions that handle children in conflict with the law.
Operation Second Chance is a rehabilitation center for children in conflict with the law established by the Province of Cebu. The interactions of our Senior High School students with the children in conflict with the law housed in Operation Second Chance are primarily tutorials but will often times include the sharing of stories as to how the child ended up in the center and a quick game of basketball.
The Magone Home Aftercare Program is a program designed by The Salesian Philippine South Province for children in conflict with the law (CICL) that have undergone rehabilitation programs in youth detention centers with the goal of reintegration back into society. Ateneo Hearter students have interactions with the CICL which include tutorials, helping maintain the grounds, and more.
The Student Activity Program provides opportunities for students to enrich their classroom experience and non-academic endeavors in order to help them realize their potential while preparing them for the college level and beyond.
The organizations in our school’s senior high are student-initiated and student-centered. This means that the ideas behind the orgs and the passion for these causes start with the students.
They present a formal pitch to the administrators and administrators, in turn, will decide if and when they make the org official.
The Senior High sees a big shift for the CEP program from clubs to electives. These electives are strand-related subjects that are offered at the University level to give our students an edge for college by exposing them to the basic concepts and microskills required for these tertiary courses. We hope to bridge the gap between basic education and higher education by ensuring a seamless progression of skills and content knowledge from basic to specialized disciplines.
IGNITE! is a platform dedicated to an immersive learning experience taught by a master teacher. This can cover a wide range of topics – from the sciences, humanities, world businesses, to global/environmental issues. Each class is designed to give deeper understanding to a specific discipline.
It is the hope of the iC2E program that in exploring different college and career possibilities, encountering people and places of a foreign country, and experiencing new challenges outside their comfort zones, our students are able to acquire authentic lessons and to make meaningful insights. It is the hope of their mentor-chaperones that in pursuing the magis, they will have bigger dreams for themselves, their communities and their country.
