Contrary to popular belief, the teachers and staff of Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu are not invincibly perfect working machines, though I like to think sometimes we actually get pretty close to it. Despite our awe-inspiring efforts, human as we are, sometimes we just get a little bit lost. As years progress and time takes its toll, much like our students, we too fall in need of guidance. This year the High School faculty and staff community embarked on a 2 day Ignatian Spirituality in Education Workshop, or ISEW, with the theme: Rediscovering the Light, Rekindling the Flame. It was during this 2 day workshop that everyone united in the endeavor of re-igniting the passion we have for our teaching vocation, faith, and of course Sacred Heart School Ateneo de Cebu and all its constituents.
It was during the workshop that we were able to walk with St. Ignatius of Loyola once again to strengthen our commitment to his faith life. Just as St. Ignatius aspired to spread the love of Jesus, we were called to continue the same mission in our profession. As the workshops continued the faculty and staff were taken through the pages of time back to the humble beginnings of the school. With the vast, beautiful, and intricate steps that lead to what SHS-ADC is now, we couldn’t help but dream for what the future has in store. Of course, the workshops weren’t 100% seriousness; surprising as it may sound we teachers know how to have fun from time to time. That being said, we had our fair share of laughs along the way and strengthened our bonds of friendship. The other activities brought us to the highest peaks of our faith and inspired down to the deepest crevices of our being. The Workshop passed like a beam of light and before we knew it, we were already on our separate ways. However, despite the astonishing time lapse, nobody was the same from when they first entered the workshop. We left the workshop stronger, as individuals, as colleagues, and as a community. Instilled in each and every one of us, was a burning flame destined to last a lifetime, or at least until the next ISEW.
