The Social Involvement Office spearheaded the commencement of this year’s social involvement activities in its five partner communities. Two sections had parallel social involvement activities on July 11. Grade 7-Bellarmine took the lead in another round of Saturday-of-Service in Gasa sa Gugma Home for the Sick and the Elderly. Grade 8-Berchmans was the first class to visit Gawad Kalinga-Maguikay for the house painting and the Saturday interactive sessions with over 50 children in the said community.
On July 18, Grade 9-Jogues went to Lower Tipolo Homeowners Association (LTHAI) for their urban poor home visits and Saturday tutorials. Earlier in July, the High School Student Council together with the Grade 9 advisers and partner teachers also went to LTHAI for a site visit and turn-over of 185 donated chairs.
The Grade 10 students started on July 3 their Service Learning Activities (formerly service practicum) in Canduman and Cubacub Elementary Schools. In a school year, the seniors are expected to visit at least ten times in the said schools for tutorial sessions in English with grade 6 pupils. The Service Learning sessions will culminate sometime December of this school year with a Christmas party.
The Social Involvement Office highlighted during the series of orientations with the different grade levels that more than anything else the school’s flagship S.I. Activities are intended to be formative. In other words it is our way of living out what we have repeated several times in our prayers: “to give and not to count the cost, to labor and ask not for reward.”
