Writers on the Spot

As the Seeds Magazine staffers continue to develop Ignatian charisms of excellence, leadership, and service, they become mission-oriented in their campus journalistic works. Through the many wins in the recently concluded Division and Regional Press Conferences last October 9 and December 8, 2015, they have proven once again that the eloquence of the young Ateneo Hearters deserves to be heard.

Here are some of the winners who shared their reflections about the school publication, the Seeds Magazine, and how it helped them to develop their talent in writing.

“I have always been into creative writing. I especially like to write poems and stories. However, I have always wanted to try campus journalism too. So, it was a really big boost in my self-confidence when they asked me to write for the Seeds Magazine. I felt really happy since they both nurtured my formal and creative writing styles. The Seeds staffers welcomed me with open arms and I found great friends in them.”
- Hannah Sophia Gonzaga, Gr. 4 – St. Stanislaus Kostka

“I never really thought that I am good in writing until the Seeds Magazine tapped me to write a feature article for them. I was then given a lot of affirmation afterwards. It was then that I started to believe in my writing ability. Being a staffer of the magazine, I have proven countless of times just how important it is to deliver correct information to the student body.”
- Leica Daquipil, Gr. 6 – St. Peter Canisius

“Joining the Seeds magazine was one of the important milestones in my life as a grade school pupil. Being a part of its writing team has showed another part of my being as it nurtured the poet and the storyteller side of me. It truly honed my skills in writing, and by extension, my artistic thinking.”
- Justin Jude Dionio, Gr. 6 – St. Ignatius of Loyola

“Nang ako ay maimbitahan ng Seeds Magazine para sumulat ng balita, ako ay nagulat sapagkat hindi naman talaga ako mahilig magsulat. Subalit noong nagsimula na ang trainings at workshops, nadiskubre kong masaya pala itong gawin. Hindi lang ako natututo kung paano ang tamang pagsulat, nagkakaroon pa ako ng makabuluhang gawain sa aking libreng oras.”
- Myesha Louise Morales, Gr. 6 – St. Peter Canisius

“Noon pa man ako ay mahilig na talaga akong magsulat. Ngunit nahihiya akong sumali sa Seeds Magazine. Kaya naman labis akong nasiyahan noong sinabi nila na kailangan nila ng manunulat ng Editoryal sa Filipino. Dahil dito nagkaroon ako ng kumpiyansa sa sarili na ibahagi ang aking mga gawa.
- Alyana Fatima Pamaos, Gr. 6 – St. Peter Claver

Indeed, the Seeds magazine is a great platform to hone one’s writing talents. Above all, it isn’t just about being able to write news or stories; it is also about developing writers who have a contemplative-in-action mindset, sharing stories that speaks the truth and promote peace.
