MASS FOR IGNATIAN HEROES
The school community gathered as one to celebrate Ignatian Heroes Appreciation Day (IHEAD) through a mass presided by school president Fr. Manny Uy S.J., at the Magis Eagles Arena on October 09, 2019.
It was a day filled with heart-felt reflections and recognitions.
Ms. Marisse Paraoan, a 10 year service awardee and Assistant Principal of the grade school department, was tasked to give the homily for the day’s eucharist. She talked about her experiences as a teacher in SHS-AdC and highlighted the importance of serving and becoming “the salt and light of the earth”, reflecting on the day’s Gospel.
Ms. Paraoan then thanked the school for giving her the opportunity to teach. She further elaborated on her decision to continue teaching, rather than “settling down”.
“The proverbial forever does not exist with us; forever is in God. What we humans have us are moments. Just moments,” she explained. “We have to be reminded to be thankful.”
Athletes who excelled in various sport competitions were then called on stage to be recognized.
This was followed by the grand recognition of the loyalty awardees, Ignatian Heroes who had served the school for 10 years and every 5 years after that. The awardees, who were accompanied by their families, were given plaques by school president Fr. Manuel A. Uy, S.J.
Two of this year’s loyalty awardees were then given the opportunity to speak on stage. Mr. Santos Araneta, Junior High School Laboratory Assistant and 20-year of service awardee, and Mme. Evelyn Latonio, Junior High School Assistant Principal and 30-year of service awardee, both shared their experiences as Ignatian Formators throughout the years.
Fr. Manny then thanked the whole community for participating in the mass, which ended with the singing the school hymn, Lux Oriens.
