The school offers not only excellent education but also forms servant leaders for the greater glory of God.

Times of crisis are opportunities to serve. And true to the “bayanihan” spirit, the school, working with alumni and other partners, converted the Sacred Heart School Mango campus gym to a quarantine facility, the “Bayanihan Cebu Field Center-SHS.” The field center was set up to “house COVID-19 patients exhibiting mild to moderate symptoms” and “to help decongest the hospitals from patients that do not necessarily require immediate hospital confinement,” the Bayanihan Cebu PH Facebook Page stated.
The Bayanihan Cebu PH movement is a united front composed of the Office of the Presidential Assistant for the Visayas, Regional Developmental Council-R7, Department of Health-R7, SHS-Ateneo de Cebu, the Society of Jesus, Archdiocese of Cebu, Cebu Caritas Inc., LH Foundation Inc. and the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. Key people of these organizations are alumni of then Sacred Heart School for Boys and the current administration of the school. Among them are current Mario King, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the school, Edmun Liu, Kenneth Cobonpue and Michael Dino.
The UP Medical Alumni Society Cebu Chapter helped out in the construction of the field center as the site’s planners ensured that the field center met certain standards and would be well-equipped, from its floor plan to lay-out, equipment and traffic flow.
Among the key features is negative air pressure, “a technique used by hospitals that prevents cross-contamination by allowing air to flow through HEPA filters before escaping the enclosed fully air-conditioned facility.” HEPA is “a medical grade High Efficiency Particle Arresting filter that is made from highly efficient filter paper that removes harmful air particles. This filters the air inside the enclosed fully air-conditioned facility before it flows out to avoid the spread of the virus to the neighboring community,” the primer on its FB page stated.
The center has a capacity of 48 beds and started operations in May. Plans are now underway to put up a drive-through swabbing facility also at the old campus.
